What is billing software for a small business?

Billing software for a small business handles the daily money work: invoices with the right GST, payments and what customers still owe, stock on the shelf, purchases from suppliers, expenses, and the reports and returns that follow.

PikZiy Books brings GST billing, payment tracking and expenses together, so nothing is copied from one sheet to another.

WHY EXCEL STOPS WORKING

Five spreadsheets. None of them agree.

01

Stock that's only right on Sunday

The stock sheet is updated at the weekend. On Thursday a customer wants eight dinner sets and there are three.

A ₹20,160 order lost to a competitor down the road.

02

GST typed in by hand

Different rates on different products, CGST and SGST or IGST, HSN codes from memory. One wrong formula and GSTR-1 doesn't match.

The wrong rate on one product for a whole quarter.

03

Supplier bills in a drawer

Bills arrive with the stock and sit until the supplier calls. Nobody knows what's due this week.

₹45,370.80 due to a supplier, remembered on the due date.

QUESTIONS

Asked, and answered.

What is the best billing software for a small business in India?

One that gets GST right on every invoice, keeps track of who has paid, knows what is in stock, records what you buy and spend, and gives you reports and GST returns without a spreadsheet. It should be simple enough for the owner and the counter staff, and grow into proper books for your CA.

Can I bill both goods and services?

Yes. Each item is goods or a service, with its HSN or SAC code, price, unit and GST. Goods can track stock; services don't need to.

Does it track stock?

Yes, on every plan. Set opening stock and a low-stock threshold for each product. Issued invoices reduce stock; goods received, itemised supplier bills and adjustments add to it. Items at or below their threshold show as Low stock, and stock counts record what is actually on the shelf.

Can I record purchases from suppliers?

On Business: purchase orders, goods received notes and supplier bills, line by line with HSN codes and GST, or as a total. Bills you haven't paid show on the dashboard, and differences between what you ordered, received and were billed go to a review queue.

Can I bill walk-in customers?

Yes. Add them as individual customers with just a name, or a name and address. Sales to unregistered customers go into the B2CS table of GSTR-1 on Growth and above, or B2CL for large inter-state sales.

Do I need to be registered for GST?

Registration is required once aggregate turnover crosses ₹40 lakh in most states for a business that only sells goods (less in some north-eastern and hill states), or ₹20 lakh if you also sell services (₹10 lakh in some states). Below that you can invoice without GST, using just your PAN. See invoicing without GST registration.

Can I move from Excel?

Yes. Start from a date: add your customers, items with their opening stock, and your open invoices. On Enterprise you can import customers and items from a spreadsheet, with help moving your data in. Our guide to switching from Excel walks through it.

What reports do I get?

On Growth and above: sales, payments received, what customers owe, sales by customer and by item, tax collected, the GST worksheet, the HSN summary, expenses and bills to pay. On Business: profit and loss, balance sheet and stock valuation from double-entry books.

Can my staff use it without seeing everything?

Yes. Staff can create invoices and record payments without access to settings, payment methods or the team, and Viewers can only look. Growth includes 3 people and Business 10.

Which plan should a small business choose?

Starter for invoices, payments and stock with one login. Growth for a small team, expenses, reports and GST returns. Business when you buy from suppliers regularly and want books, purchase orders and supplier bills.

Run the shop. Let the numbers keep up.
