What is billing software for startups?

Billing software for startups puts the money side of a young company in order from the first customer: correct GST invoices, payments, expenses and the numbers that tell you how long the cash will last.

PikZiy Books starts with invoicing and grows into expenses, collections and double-entry books, without moving to another system.

WHERE STARTUP FINANCE BREAKS

Building the product. Guessing the numbers.

01

The first invoice, made in Docs

Wrong tax, no place of supply, a number that will clash with the next one. It's fine until the customer's finance team sends it back.

IGST charged to a customer in your own state.

02

“How much runway do we have?”

An investor asks. The answer lives in three spreadsheets and the founder's bank app.

A board meeting spent rebuilding last month's numbers.

03

Customers who pay in 90 days

Enterprise customers pay late, and late customers eat runway faster than any expense.

₹2,97,360 owed to you while you pay salaries on the 1st.

How long will the cash last?

Enter the cash in the bank, what goes out and comes in each month, and how fast each is growing. See your runway, when you break even, and the cash at the end of every month.

RUNWAY

11.1 months

You burn ₹2,70,000 a month today. At these rates you break even in month 17, but the cash runs out first.

Cash at the end of each month, from today. Revenue here is money collected, so late-paying customers shorten your runway; PikZiy Books' 13-week cash forecast shows what is actually due in. Nothing you type is saved.

QUESTIONS

Asked, and answered.

What is billing software for startups?

Billing software for startups gets the first GST invoice out correctly, tracks who has paid, records what the company spends, and turns it into the numbers founders and investors ask for: revenue, what is owed, cash due in, and profit and loss. It should be quick to start and grow with the team.

How quickly can we send our first invoice?

Add your business details and GSTIN, a customer and what you sell, and the invoice is ready, with GST worked out from both states. Setup steps on the dashboard walk you through it; every plan starts with a 14-day free trial.

We aren't registered for GST yet. Can we still invoice?

Yes. Leave the GSTIN empty and add your PAN. Your invoices carry no GST until you register, and you add the GSTIN the day you do. Our guide to invoicing without GST registration explains the rules.

Can the whole founding team use it?

Yes. Growth includes 3 people and Business 10, with extra users available. Each person gets a role, from Admin to Viewer, and your CA can join as an Accountant.

What numbers can we show investors?

Revenue by period and by customer, what customers owe and how late it is, the 13-week cash forecast, expenses by category, and on Business the profit and loss and balance sheet from double-entry books. Download them as CSV on Business.

Does it help with cash flow?

On Growth and above, Collections shows overdue invoices with promises to pay and follow-ups, and a 13-week cash forecast of money due in from invoices and promises, against bills due out. See cash flow vs profit.

Can we bill subscriptions or retainers?

On Business, any invoice can become a subscription that invoices the customer every week, month, quarter or year, issued and emailed on its date. Customers pay each invoice from its link; cards are not charged automatically.

Will it keep our books for the CA?

On Business. From the start date you choose, invoices, payments, expenses and supplier bills post double-entry entries on their own, with TDS, bank reconciliation from a CSV statement and closed months.

Can we move from Excel or Tally?

Yes. Start fresh from a date, enter opening balances on Business, and on Enterprise import customers and items from a spreadsheet, with help moving your data in. See switching from Excel.

Which plan should a startup choose?

Starter if one founder is billing. Growth once a few people need access and you want expenses, reports, GST returns and collections. Business when you need books for your CA, recurring billing and purchases.
